Volunteer Opportunities

Responsibilities

Time Commitment

  • 6-8+ hours a month

 

 

Tool Maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Sort tool donations into keep, pass along, and discard groups

  • Triage tools reported broken by members

  • Order replacement parts as needed

  • Help design regular maintenance schedules for tools

Requirements

  • Tool knowledge and experience

  • Ability to troubleshoot tools

Time Commitment

  • 2-4+ hours a month


 

Transportation

Responsibilities

  • Collect tools from tool drop off sites and bring to library

  • Transport discarded tools to designated locations

Requirements

  • Driver’s license and access to appropriate vehicle

Time Commitment

  • 2-4+ hours a month

 

Volunteer

Coordination

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that volunteer shifts are assigned

  • Field questions from potential volunteers

  • Train new volunteers

Requirements

  • Working with volunteer management software or Google apps

  • Access to desktop computer

Time Commitment

  • 1-2 hours a week


Event Planning

Responsibilities

  • Conceive, plan, and execute plans for workshops and other events

  • Keep lists of tasks organized and up to date

  • Connect with folks in like-minded organizations in search of opportunities to collaborate

Requirements

  • Desire to bring people together

  • Attention to detail and solid organizational and communication skills

Time Commitment

  • Project-based for the duration of an event’s planning and execution


Fundraising

Responsibilities

  • Identify grants that are a good fit for the library

  • Track grant application dates in a centralized location

  • Assist in the writing of grants (in collaboration with other folks at the library)

Requirements

  • Knowledge of grant writing or the willingness to learn about the process

  • Attention to detail and solid organizational and communication skills

Time Commitment

  • 2-4+ hours a month


Social Media

Responsibilities

  • Plan out social media campaigns around important library milestones (crowd funding campaigns, parties, opening day, etc.)

  • Author social media posts in keeping with the library’s vision and mission, specifically in regard to being as inclusive as possible.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or other social networks

  • Solid grammar and writing skills

Nice To Have

  • Experience with social media scheduling  or management tools

Time Commitment

  • 2-4+ hours a month


Community Engagement

Responsibilities

  • Work with community partners to collaborate, attend, or host events like tool drives, farmers markets, neighborhood builds, etc.

  • Build partnerships with likeminded organizations and businesses

  • Attend events and oversee setup and teardown

Requirements

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Ability to identify appropriate opportunities and work with library leadership

Time Commitment

  • 2-4+ hours a month
